Culture and heritage play a large part in Uxbridge's community feeling. A rural community, Uxbridge, population 19,000-plus, is ideally situated between Oshawa and Toronto, in the Oak Ridges Moraine.
Uxbridge offers a number of outdoor recreational opportunities, like golf courses, ski resorts and baseball diamonds. Several tracts of Durham Regional Forest are ideal for cross-country skiing and hiking. In addition, the town recently opened a skateboard facility for local youths.
The Uxbridge-Scott Historical Society and Museum preserves and displays the town's history. The former home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables, is showcased, as is York Durham Heritage Railway, which now runs between Whitchurch-Stouffville and Uxbridge.
Uxbridge caters to family life with a selection of new homes and resale opportunities. Some century homes line the town's main streets.
